Impact Bag Filling Material
Just received my Gary Wiren Impact bag and their suggestion was to put soft material in the bag. When I use it and take a short Swing with the dowel and don't go too hard at it will stay in place. If I go past that it moves substantially. Should I add something like sand at the bottom? Is there a ideal weight for the bag?

"Making a dent"
Just use some old towels or rags. Don't fill it up 100%; try about 80-85%.

Just to agree with drewitgolf. My first encounter with the Impact Bag was when I took a few lessons with Ben Doyle. He had at least 3 of them laying around the range and we used them extensively. They were filled with old towels. I picked one up myself & used the same material.

Excellent place to put golf towels that have seen their best days.

I guess if you put something heavier in it you risk wrist injuries and the bag may crack up.

It does move substanially at times. I guess it is only a good thing to have to practice taking a new grip and stance every time.

"All washed up"
Talk to your local pro. If he uses a towel service to clean clubs or golf cars, the service usually provides older, beat-up towels that you could probably get cheap (or free if he is a good guy) to semi-fill your bag.

Old golf shirts, old golf towels, just dont fill the bag totally. three quarters full will work fine, has anyone noticed that the newer impact bags from Gary Wiren wear out much quicker than the older ones, they now look like they use a slightly different material, or am I just getting my students to use them a whole lot more!!!

Izzo makes an impact bag that is much cheaper than Wiren's bag and has been sturdy for me. It is available at TGW. You can't beat it for $18.
