I just watched 6 girls preparing for the 1st Futures tour event.
Four of them came up on their toes through impact.
I also played with 4 girls in a training tournment and
three came up on their toes.
When I was a kid we used to perform an experiment:
Women would stand facing a wall and bend forward till
thier head was on the wall. We would place a chair in
front of them. The could pick up the chair and then
stand up. Men could not do this.
Is a womens structure made so that they have more
trouble than men with coming up on the toes?
"Some years ago Mme. Lacoste came to me with a photgraph of herself driving. She was as far up on her toes as ever Miss Wethered had been. But fortuneately by this time I had begun to study and understand the question, so when she asked me what I thought of her picture I said I saw nothing wrong with it.
'But look' she said 'I am right up on my toes'.
'I know you are' said I, ' But is that wrong?'
'Every expert I have shown it to says it is.'
'Well' say I ' here is one expert who says it isn't. If you take my advice you will forget that picture and any idea it has produced in you, and go on playing as you played that shot.'
'But it seems all wrong.'
'It is not wrong' said I. 'Look! your head and shoulders are beautifully down and thats all you need to have down. Then se your stretch up through your body - it's marvellous, that is what gives you your wrist snap and makes you such a long hitter for such a little dainty lady' "
