right arm pickup
This could be the naming but I feel to get maximun extensor action on the backswing that there is no picking up. The club does go up because the arms go up as they go back but there is no intentional lifting done by the hands. is the right arm forearm pickup different that what i have described?

If a "lift the hands" command is sent to the Hands it would result in cocking of both wrists and in this case the right wrist in particular. Which is obviously not desired. The sequence of an "activate Extensor Action" command followed by a "lift the right forearm" command is what should be dispatched to The Machine. "Lifting the Hands" and "Lifting the Forearm" are different features of The Machine. |
You can apply extensor action and bend the right elbow that picks up the club. Educated hands do this. The pivot can start the club in the take-away, as in a shoulder take-away, but it can not raise the clubhead- it needs a bending of the right elbow. I still love the RFT - instant extensor action. In Canton, the extensor action test was seeing what your right hand would do if the left hand was removed. It, the right hand, would shot out into space because of the force of 6-B-1-D.

Guys
Yes I was hung up on the term. The word pickup I don't think should be used but it is so I will have to accept it. As far as bringing the club back to a position that is what Yoda taught me to do and I was just trying to verify my mechanics to feelings and pickup is not what I felt. Thanks Dave |

Any other Drills or FEELS for this procedure... that will ensure the FOREARM and club are traveling UP the plane, and not too much back and in... that can be done without another person's assistance? |
Right Arm Pick-up.....Full Sweep Loading...as the right forearm moves back and up you're folding your right elbow.
True extensor action takeaway per 10-19-0....Random Loading for Hitting and Snap Loading for Swinging....move the forearm back and up and let the right elbow fold naturally al la Ernie Els. DG |

Inside of forearm
In Yodas video cannot tell if inside of forearm is square to target or angled down (elbow pointing out) or angled upward (elbow pointing down).
Also, since Tomasello states that in hitting the elbow moves back more in backswing that would seem to indicate square to target. Is it the same for swinging? Do not have the book. |
Make sure your trail arm is a little bent and a space is seen from behind so your trail arm is very slightly lower than your lead arm. From this position raise your forearm (the part between your wrist bone and elbow)apply extensor action.

I don't appreciate your offensive remark. In the last two summers I have spent countless hours studying and practising the golf swing. Today at the range, a rainy day with dead range balls, I peppered the 225 yard flag with ball after ball... never quite hit it but came real close a few times..I even had a little audience. I can put my trailing arm in several different positions and still meet the criteria you speak of, so either please respect my question or don't waste my time. dp |

SwingN2S was not being offensive to you. I cannot see how reading his post you think he offended you. He just wanted you to bend at the elbow and not lift the whole right arm straight (to parallel to the ground) on the take-away. He was teaching a right forearm take-away. Learning how to fold and unfold the right arm at the elbow is key to a good swing. |

BUT it is a critical point in the Right Forearm Pick-up. I think that the point to this statement was that in the Right Forearm Pick-Up you ABSOLUTELY DO NOT raise the club by COCKING your RIGHT WRIST. This point cannot be stressed too much. Your Right Wrist remains LEVEL. I doesn't COCK PERIOD. Otherwise the Right FOREARM Flying Wedge is destroyed. NOTE: It is a Right Forearm Wedge and not a Right Arm Wedge. I think this is the point that was being made. Cock the Right Elbow not the Wrist. In doing so the Left Wrist will Cock while the Right Wrist remains Level. To get the idea of how this works. Split your hands on the grip. Pick the club up by bending the Right Elbow WITHOUT cocking the right wrist. Be sure that it remains LEVEL. Now watch how your Left Wrist Cocks with out the Right Wrist Cocking. Whoop there it is. |

Since I am very aware of the level right hand and bend at the elbow technique, and since all he did was define the term "forearm" it had zero instructional value. And based on my knowledge of professionals working in the golf field I determined a sense of humor was out of the question. :) It is not a bg deal. Anyway my question arises because after about 20 near perfect drives one right after the other I started getting disoriented on what to do in the backswing. I want to be able to hit a whole bucket of perfect drives without losing it. Then I will move on to my short game. Thanks for your response dp |
Lash the flashlight to the inside of your forearm. Trace the plane line.
The flashlight is better than the laser. A faulty grip/forearm alignment with the laser can cause an off plane forearm. No chance with the flashlight lashed to the forearm. |

After 6 posts, none of us have any idea what level of experience you have with The Golfing Machine. It is the nature of many to be as clear and precise with their language as they can possible be on this “word only instruction web site” since “on hands reality instruction” is a feature this forum hasn’t been able to provide as of yet. (ponder no more- that was a stab at wit) That said, continue to ask questions (the best way for all of us to learn) but chill out. Members might not want to get in a tussle with an answer. Besides, it takes time around here to be properly insulted by anyone. (ponder even less- another attempt at humor). There are many professional instructors on this site. It would be safe to say everyone of them add to their knowledge of the golf swing all the time on this forum. |
My remark was not offensive. The instruction that I stated came right from Ted Fort to my forearm to gods ears........
If I wanted to be offensive, I would have started my sentence with "You idiot"............. Quote:

"my remark was not offensive"
I found the precise answer to my question on Page 3 Emergency room/swingers.. subject.. Head...post #s 4 and 6. Specifically item 2 in post # 6 by Yoda. Your remark was offensive to me. Before you post you should use your brain (it's between your ears). dp |

I monitored a good ole forum fight between one Yoda and on Manzella way back. And it aint worth it. :) All here for the same thing... To learn and apply it to our swings! |
Play the ball
This degenerated into a sad thread through a seemingly innocuous remark. Thankfully there are few examples of threads of this standard here.
There are many contributors in the various forums only too willing to help players of all levels with top quality advice and friendly discussion. This makes it the best golf site on the web by far. We can keep it that way simply by playing the ball and resisting the temptation to play or belittle the man. You only have to check a few other sites to see how that tactic devalues the experience for everyone involved. Please, not here. |
I for one do apologize for some of my remarks. Like any forum on the web, it is best to send some time with the members before dishing out any trash. As I said earlier, it helps to know what level of TGM experience he had and that takes more than a few posts. Many first timers say hello and explain who they are. That is a big help. And since no one knew- the explanation of the movement of just the forearm folding at the elbow was important. Over reacting to a misunderstanding has been unfortunate.

Emotion=intelligence=learning or the ability to learn much quicker.
This concept taken fron Steven Pinkers' "How The Mind Works". You can read stuff all day and not apply it, but get involved by posting...make a claim about yourself!!! Do anything, pick a fight.. thse things make learning far quicker because you are forced to think about what you said. The people out in lurk land need to understand this. dp |

[quote=6bmike]Leo, I disagree- lurkers can learn and lot, read the archieves and when they feel up to it ask questions, as I say dumber the better so we can get to the root of the question.<<
Like what is the part between my fingers and wrist? :) >>Questions teach- so ask away. But to join and "pick a fight" to oddly simulate one's own learning process is self-centered and does nothing for the forum.<< Cmon now, you guys like to throw in your nasty little metaphoric inuendos. Nothing odd or idiotic about it, just breaks up the boredom :) I get a kick out of reading the responses that are creative. dp |

Anatomy
Its interesting to see that the forearm comment seems to have caused offence. While it may seem obvious it is surprising how people often get the body names wrong or the common use is incorrect. This includes Drs.
For example you cant actually break your ankle or wrist, only dislocate them as these are joints Most people with a broken arm actually have a fractured forearm (a fracture and break are the same). The arm runs from shoulder to elbow but is often imprescisely used to refere to the whole upper limb. Likewise the leg is often used when one really means lower limb as the leg runs from knee to ankle only. So while it may seen obvious often there are precise meanings for certain terms in common use. I am often told someone has dislocated their knee ( which carries the risk of amputation) when in fact they have dislocated their patella, a much lesser injury. Anyway I think precision and definition in terms leads to better understanding. Just my 2 cents worth Julian |
