Using a Video Camera
When using a video to look at my swing, can I presume I have the camera in the right place if I do the following, from face on have camera at hand height, and in line with my hands at address, and from down the line, again have the camera at hand height, but with the camera pointing down the ball to target line. I seem to hear many different positions for the camera to be placed,
Thanks. |
Video Position
Ian,
I think you are very close. I'm investigating this as part of the service we will provide for uploading video for analysis. I believe on the downline view, you will want to position the camera between the ball and your hands. In otherwords midpoint of the shaft at hands high. To get the right alignment, insert a shaft in the ground about two feet behind your clubshaft. The clubshaft in the ground should cover your club. Again, I'm investigating to make sure this is correct. Thanks, Bagger |
Thanks Bagger, on the down the line view do you mean the camera should be at the same height as the mid point of the shaft, or do you mean hand height, but pointing between hands and ball??
Sorry if I have misunderstood. Ian |
Always hands high.
Downline pointed at the midpoint of the clubshaft. Face on pointed at the hands at address. I'll update this with an article on the website with much more detail and corrections if needed. Bagger |
I was taught that Down The Line was
a. Hands Height b. Perpendicular to Target Line c. Hands in center. I am not sure a mid point (between the hands and clubhead/ball) would yield the correct results. After all for Face On, the Hands are the center focal point, one would reason, at least to my understanding, that you would want the same for Down The Line. I believe Chuck E. advocates the same. |
Face on and down the line at waist level. Face on have the camera even with the ball postition. Down the line, set a shaft or allingment tool halfway between your feet and the ball. Set the camera so that it is even with that allingment marker/tool.

I have some links on the above topic - do you want them or do u feel u have the field covered. Chris |
camera position
From face on in line with the ball position and perpendicular to the target line and hands height. But from down the line it should be hands height directly in line with the hands, another words on the clubshaft plane. This only for a Square-Square procedure. With this same camera position and an Open-Open procedure the shaft will appear to be over the plane and with Closed-Closed will appear to be under plane. So the camera should be adjusted according to the plane line being used.
Hope this helps. Hunter |
Glad to see I am not the only one a little unsure as to the correct positon of cameras, if the admin allow the links would be useful cjgolf, thanks all for your input.

Post em!
Go ahead and post the links.
Bear in mind, I'm looking for an AI approved camera setup. Bagger |
