EXTENSOR ACTION IN PUTTING

Do any of you use EXTENSOR ACTION in putting? It seems to me to do so would require an extended left arm radius at setup(fix). Most people seem to use some version of 10-3-G(The Pick) when putting. I can think of several players, however, that do have the extended left arm radius. Andy North, and Rex Caldwell ( both tall players), and one very small player from the 70's... Rod Curl. A little more currently... Phil Mickelson, and Ben Crenshaw. Whether or not they are applying Extensor Action, I don't know.

10-B-3-0 pg.71... "Putts are miniaturized Drives(12-0)."

Yes indeed. Helps in all strokes.

I use a 33" putter and actually hold it down near the steel (I'm 5'11"). Very much like Crenshaw's setup. Makes it very easy to reach full extension past impact. An underhand toss with the right hand. Makes it very easy to learn PP#2 as well (focus grip in last three fingers of left hand, try some left hand only putts with float loading and a light grip).

Makes those prof 90's sound like tour editions off the putter

extensor action

Can you truly create a pure arc without extensor action? If i remember correctly we are suppose to correct the first wobbly point!

Part of the culprits are the manufacturers making 34 and 35 inch putters for the sole reason that they fit in the bag. I worked with a local company that has done over 2000 putter fittings and they have found the average length to be closer to 32 inches regardless of height.

Maybe someone from Golf Digest can take a closer look at "What's in the bag" and reveal putter length, loft and lie angles...

Most pro's tend to use putters in the 33-34" range. Not too many use 35". I tend to like somewhere around the 34-35" range as i hit the best strokes with a more upright posture.

Also extensor action is good in putting, just have to learn how to not over do it.

I'm 6'2" with not overly long arms (34 sleeves in a dress shirt). I went to a Pelz clinic and at the putter fitting they told me to take my 35" putter home and lop two inches off it!'

But now I use a 50-inch putter! :D

Yes , even if you do not go to the both arms straight position while putting, Homer said to at least straighten the right arm to full extension. Tried it for a day but was uneasy, obviously it wasnt my style but persevered for about 1000 puts and cannot tell you the difference in the quality of the stroke. Perfect impact. Ball stays glued to the putting surface like on a magnetic green when you get it correct. Maintains its line perfectly due to no upward action but a 'througher' extension of the right forearm and clubhead down the line. No wrist action holds the clubface square and BOOM!

Accuracy and feel is amazing amazing!!!

Dont see many players use this action visibly on tour. Most seem to have both arms bent through the stroke. Sure you have to be more upright and stand a little taller to use the extensior action. Looking back I think Tiger uses it and so does Hal Sutton. Sure others do too but I'll notice other players when I see them.

"Extensor action gives an indispensable control to all Strokes." Homer Kelley 6-B-1-D

Put that extensor action into your putting if you are the class golfer that understands how. I do advise against playing with it until you have given it the old "1,2 punch" on the putting green for several hours though. Man, it certainly makes that stroke smooth though doesn't it!!!!

I'm 6'3 I use a 33 in putter. I pull the left arm with a bending right arm and straighten it through into impact. Feels like Extensor Action to me.

short putter shafts rule. :D

Agree! I have the ugliest putter on the planet. 32 inches rusty with tons of lead-tape.

What did you do to make it feel heavier?

I take it you have to setup with a straight left arm to use Ex. Act. in putting right?...
