Pole-ie #1 and counting for the season
Well the weather got up to 70* yesterday in chicago but you wouldn't know it due to the high winds.
As a quick aside if you are ever playing into heavy winds do yourself a favor and see if you can find some of the Nike ONE TW (tiger wood) spec model. They came with my DVD set of him that i got as a gift. Tiger's always liked to play low launching/high spinning balls (until lately lol) and boy is this what this ball does. I played it side by side with the bridgeston B330 and each had the same distance (both were plugging due to soggy fairways) but the ONE TW flew like 40 feet off the ground. Both were with 3 woods and same tee height. BACK TO THE POLE-IE Anyway....second hole of the year and trying to actually hit off grass again and just be on the course. Pushed my 3 wood right off into some trees and into this really soggy stuff that isn't even playable. There was casual water everywhere. So i decided to hit a thin worm burner which usually results in a 5-6 feet high shot that cuts. Sure enough thats what it did except it took one hop about 2 feet from the flag and hit the pole so hard i knocked it over LOL. But the ball deflectoed into the greenside junk. I did save par though! We'll see how many more i can get. |
Sweet!
Keep knockin' 'em down!!!

The season's not even begun, and already you have a Pole-ie. Congratulations! But don't be dismayed about your unfortunate 'kick' off the Flag into the gunch. Listen to this Ken Venturi story... "In the early 1950s, Byron Nelson came out of semiretirement to play in the Masters at Austusta, Georgia. He was having a pretty good run until he came to the par-3 sixteenth hole, the one with the water in front of the green. Here he hit a 4-iron tee shot that struck the pin on the first bounce. The ball caromed back into the water. " "He hit his next shot from the drop area, and again it the pin on the first bounce , the ball once again rebounding into the pond. He made a 7 on the hole, which ruined any chance he might have had for a high finish. In other words, the man just hit the ball too pure, too straight for his own good...at least on that one occasion." Quoting Jack Nicklaus: "Who said The Game is supposed to be fair?" |
Wasn't it ole Chuck Howell #3 who had a combo hole-ie/pole-ie and ended up in the drink earlier this year?

It was at the buick invitational and if that would've stayed in, if memory serves, he would've tied tiger for the 72hole lead or came in 2nd |
