Johnny Miller

Wow, go to any golf forum and they are all disrespecting Johnny Miller for his supposed lack of understanding of impact physics.

Just Wow

Back in Johnny's day, there were no high speed cameras, no launch monitors, and no supposed scientists espousing their theories on the non-existent Internet.

Hard to believe, but there were many great players who could git er done based on their "feel." We have learned feel isn't real, but that's really all they had.

Many now can discuss impact physics in a test tube, but I'm not seeing any of these guys perform like Johnny, in fact I'm seeing them destroy some great players I admire.

Time to start paying more attention to those who are proven champions? The ultimate in hands controlled pivots?

I haven't read the other forums but I have heard him talk about a flat spot in the orbit of the club head and the face staying straight to the target for a period of time.

Did he mention something along those lines in the broadcast yesterday? "Sure seems as if. "

Kev , steering so to speak was common fare back in the day , eh? Like beans and wieners. I remember Byron Nelson saying much the same thing way back when. Remember "Square to Square "? OUCH! I can respect Miller and Nelson for their games and contributions to the game but Square to Square .... now that was just terrible.

Homers introduction of the geometry of the circle and all that it implies must have driven some guys absolutely crazy!! "Three Dimensional Impact? What the %&#@!!!!"

There is no way Miller or Nelson did what they described. And no way Jack hit fades in the manner he described . No way! Weird isn't it? Homer had a heck of time with this business in his classes. "The laws of physics can not be annulled by any man". Things are different now , probably due to Trackman I guess.

I feel there are many self proclaimed experts on the golf swing with launch monitors and physics text books, none of whom have an understanding of how to play the game as does Johnny Miller. If we played off matts in a test tube...

To bad he didn't describe what he FELT in his HANDS.

I agree Kevin, but unfortunately Johnny does at times fall into the " he came over the top" crowd of announcers. Bottom line, even at his age, Johnny could put a whompin on all of the people wasting time on the websites. Talent and athleticism trumps everything. We all need to stop spending so much time trying to figure out a game that even Tiger Woods can't figure out and go play. Hope you are doing well in Wisconsin buddy.
