Fitting Yoda
Have had the chance to be taught by Yoda in two schools. The last one was at Old Waverly --Yoda was at his best. I recommend the disk when he makes it available. I have an order in for 12 copy's for my best customers who are Authorized instructors.---
Had the chance to do HG fitting with Yoda at Marietta Golf Center. What a blast.----We went through all options. Worked on information we are developing on what hitters tend to fit to and what swingers tend to fit to. To my suprise and to Yoda's suprise he did not fit into what we thought he would fit into. New RDH3 head our first in 5 years was clear winner, DC shaft heavy steel high kickpoint--not as stiff as we make but stiff--Head design and shaft combination worked best for Yoda when he hit. Which matchs what we are seeing. Hitters like heavy, high kickpoint, offset heads, swingers tend to low kick point, light weight steel shafts, with non offset heads. Yoda's driver --Model 82 10 degree driver has a swingers light weight graphite shaft 1/2 flex stiffer than the iron he fit into. We duplicated the club with a heavy graphite shaft for Yoda to hit with so he can test a swingers driver with a hitters driver. It will be interesting to see which one wins.---This is my first post ---hope this is OK. :o |
Yoda's new weapons
Billy,
Great first post and welcome to the forum! I'm sure Yoda will chime in shortly but if you don't mind endulging me for a moment... Please visit http://www.henrygriffitts.com/ for an overview of the clubs Billy mentioned above. Check out the company and Billy's bio while you are at it. Stick around and enjoy the comradery Billy. you're going to fit right in! Bagger |
swingers tend to be able to handle more lightweight shafts and swing speed usually becomes the determining factor in overall stiffness and feel for how stiff the tip needs to be.
Usually hitters like heavier (10g or so) shafts with mid/mid high kickpoints with stiff tips. The only shaft that has a soft tip that hitters can hanlde are the Accra series |

This is awesome stuff. My brother in law swears by your clubs and more importantly the fit process you guys use. I wouldn't mind going through it next time I'm in town. |
Fitting Yoda
Since the above post was my first I am not quite sure how to respond to the reply's but here goes.--
Two detail I left out. Yoda's old irons told a great story. Long irons worn out on the toe, middle irons in the middle and short irons to the heal. Common pattern for 1 degree change from club to club. Long Irons too flat, short irons too upright---we bend 1/2 degree from club to club. Will be interest ing to see how Yoda marks the set when they come in tomorrow. Ted and Steve who are better fitters than I am will do follow up. Also shafts are modified slope--what we call a flat cut. Basically one flex through the whole set rather that a tradional slope with several flexes in the set. ---Seems like a GM person would prefer a flat cut to a traditional cut ---we can do them either way Yoda wants them. Follow up is most important part for us---like sighting in a gun--fine tuning after the fact. If I can get to Atlanta I would love to watch the delivery---. Billy |
one thing i want to point out is that just because you are hitting a lot of shots off the toe doesn't mean they are too flat...in my case they were too UPRIGHT.
Remember not to assume and always put yourself on a lie board. |

However, aren't non offset heads the domain of blades? Are there non-offset cavity backs? |
Has selection of HG's improved? When I was fit only the
blade type was available. As you can well imagine they are well worn and in need of replacement. Was fit here in Florida by a man from Pennsylvania. Cannot remember his name but he knew his stuff. Florida Lefty |

"This must be the one you like...you've hit the last fifty balls with it." As usual, he was right, and the proof was in the pudding. I played my first round with the new sticks at Atlanta Country Club, for thirty years the site of the PGA TOUR's Atlanta Golf Classic, and shot 70. They haven't left my bag since! |

I had the opportunity to work with Yoda and Yodasluke yesterday. It was awesome! But naturally I had to check out my equipment. I am a hitter and hit Yoda's HG's much better than my own HG's. Mine are RDH II's and my HG 82-10 Driver is offset and his is not. If I switch to what Yoda is using should I just use my old set for tomato stakes this spring? Gotta love technology. |
