North Carolina Mountains
Does anyone have a recommendation of a nice place to stay and golf near Ashviile, Linville or Blowing Rock.

Linville GC is a resort i think and a Donald Ross. I never played it but always see it listed as a Ross Hidden Gem.

To play Linville you have to stay at the Eseola lodge there at the course.(Quite pricey) A lot of the courses closer to Boone and Blowing Rock are just aerifying there greens as there season has really just started.
On the other side of Asheville, Maggie Valley is a great place to stay and play. Between Asheville and Boone the best courses are Reems Creek in Weaverville Mountain Glen in Newland (very near Linville) Boone Golf Club (greens were punched Monday) Lots of good courses in the area but those are the best on the main drag so to speak. The muni course in Asheville is also a Ross design sees a ton of play not the greatest condition, but a very fun layout. |
The Grove Park Inn is a great place to stay, nice spa for the wife, great golf course too. It is in North Asheville. Just below Asheville, there is a resort called Etowah Valley. great golf and very reasonable prices.

North Carolina Golf
I have played the Waynesville, Maggie Valley and Lake Lure courses. The Lake Lure Apple Mountain course would be my first pick to play again. Great elevation changes, creeks, scenary. I would rate the accomodations as two star quality. We went with friends and thought we had a two bedroom villa. Turns out the second bedroom was upstairs in a loft area open to the downstairs, not too neat. They may have better accomodations, but I'd sugest making sure you know what you are getting if you go there.
Waynesville and Maggie Valley are flatter, family fun type courses. I used to go to Waynesville every spring to an event sponsored by Deloitte/Touche and stayed at the course. Again accomodations are two - three stars, simple. Waynesville has three nine hole courses. Maggie Valley has two or three 18 hole courses. All of these locations probably have websites. There are some pretty mountain courses over by Cashiers as well. |
