In the past five years, the MONEY looks like this:

Brian Gay
$8,947,558

Matt Bettencourt $2,057,647

Perhaps another way to measure?

2009 70.34 $3,201,295
2008 70.11 $2,205,513
2007 70.89 $1,114,571
2006 70.32 $1,037,600

Guess he'll have to 're-build' his swing.

I only asked about his situation.Who's talking about re-bulding his swing?? Why so touchy?

Re-read your questions. Paraphrased only slightly, you asked:

"Why isn't Brian playing better?"

"Is he hurt?"

"Has he forgotten what he learned?"

Quite frankly, having lived and worked the adventure these past five years, that critique and characterization rubbed me the wrong way. I posted the facts of his remarkably consistent Scoring Average and very respectable Official Money as evidence that perhaps things are not so bad after all.

I meant no harm. If everybody is happy about the way things are going, then I guess I better appologize for bringing this up.

"Happy about the way things are going . . . "?

That statement suggests an indifference on the part of the player (and his coach). No competitor worth his salt is satisfied with the status quo, no matter how high his rank among his peers. Brian did not win this year -- at least not yet -- and I can assure you he is far from "happy" about that situation.

But, to suggest as you did that a scoring average of 70.70 and Official Money of almost $1.4 million is playing poorly and that such a performance can only be explained by being hurt or forgetful is a slap in the face.

No need to apologize. These are free forums, and you are entitled to your opinion. But, don't be surprised when a response bears the same edge as the question.

I'm not sure what to say, to get out of this mess I have got myself into. I never suggested he is playing poorly, but perhaps not up to his very best (for we all know what that can be). Sorry.

Understood, Air. We're workin' on it.

And now . . .

Let's tee up another ball and leave this hole behind.

And, this may come as a shock to my friends here, I have earned somewhat less than $8,000,000 this year on tour.

I saw BG on the range the last day at Aronimink, and talk about "frozen ropes!" My wife is very nice to me and smiled when she said "Honey, you almost hit them like that!" I thought I saw BG smile, but the next five shots were considerably longer and somehow, straighter.

"Honey, I can spell TGM but Mr. Gay does TGM, seriously!"
