I gather the objective is to hit the ball to the right of where you are aiming so that you don't steer down the target line?

With a Putter or Chipping Club, swing the Clubhead radically Inside-Out across the Target Line while keeping the Clubface Square to the Target. The Ball will go straight toward the Target.
The object of the exercise is to teach the player that the Ball goes where the Clubface is "looking" and
not in the direction of the Clubhead Path. Thus, it reduces the inclination to Steer the Clubhead down the Target Line.
