Impact Fix
I removed my last post regarding my putting woes. Stop whining Bagger!

Here's a question and I haven't tried this one yet, nor have I heard it mentioned that I recall.

How about going to impact fix with the putter?
Jeez, I can't believe this never occured to me!!!

For a shoulder only putting stroke, there would be an impact fix and address position. Pay attention to ball location, hand location, shoulder location.

For an arms only stroke, would there be any difference between fix and address?
I don't think there would be.

Then there's the Waggle...
There's some light bulbs starting to go off now.
Wake up and smell the short grass Bagger!

Fix
Bagger,

Is there really a difference between address and impact fix with the shoulder stroke? With everything zeroed out except the #4 acc how would impact differ from address?

Admin warning - I'm very comfortable talking about full swings, but I'm lost right now with putting so take this with a grain of salt. In a shoulder only stroke, theoretically the right shoulder would be lower at impact than address. But then again, that may only apply to follow through since the ball is positioned under the rotational point of the stroke (I think VJ mentioned upper spine)and there is no need for axis tilt.

I'll check out the yellow book here shortly. First I have to go challenge Trig in a game of 21 on the putting green. If I'm going to figure this out, I need to do it under pressure!

Fair enough. I have a feeling you may have answered my question with your last response in that the thorasic spinal region is the "pivot point" in a shoulder stroke and the ball is played in the middle of your stance.

Good luck with the 21. Isn't this Texas weather incredible??? (Of course we could use a little rain!)

Comet,

I'm still thinking about this. There is lag in a putting stroke and the hands should lead through impact. So if at address the hands are not in their impact location, there may be a slight difference between impact fix and address.
The light bulbs are dim...maybe our swing coaches will chime in to light this one up.

Rest easy, friend Bagger, help is on the way. I've sent photos up to Trig and will put up my own 12-5-1 Putting Stroke just as soon as he shows me how to load'em in the post.

I'm feeling better after going three rounds of 21 with Trig. I'm a better shoulder stroker than right arm stroker. 10-3-G Pick, with a 10-3-H Paw Basic Minor stroke. I use a practice stroke to make sure there is no wobble in the takeaway and to check that angle hinging is in effect. Then make sure I get a good follow-through.

Comet - yep, gotta love playing golf in shorts this time of year. I'm a former West Coast guy that got here as soon as I could.

Yoda - I'll PM you regarding attaching pictures. It's as easy as this...

Your cured!
Bagger,

As far as I'm concerned you are putting great now. Good line and speed control.

By the way, they rolled our greens this morning....you should see 'em now!

You know me buddy. It ain't over till I'm rolling 8 footers in the cup on a constant basis. And most importantly, I know exactly why I'm rolling them so well.
So I'm a long way off.

Now back to that impact fix vs. address question. Does it apply in putting?

I believe it can, especially on the shoulder stroke because it is a swingers procedure, there is a slight amount of drag and lag. So impact hands will look slightly different than address hands.

What do y'all think?

AND WHERE IS VJ!!!??? He better have a good excuse for being late to the party!

Kids with sore throats, getting the putting arc booth ready for the show, and 8 people daily with throwaway is where I have been. I feel lost if I don't get the chance to come see you guys and I refuse to leave until I have thrown light this impact vs address stuff.

In the shoulder only stroke the pivot is zeroed out and the shoulders move only because they are a part of the power package. Impact and address match. The only difference could, but should not be, the height of the putter at address and impact. If you ground the putter then a difference will be found, however if you sole the putter you are in good shape.

Since the pivot is zeroed out there is no weight shift or axis tilt. Because the hands are frozen there is no bending or cockig.
