new hitter
I've recently decided that after experimenting with both hitting and swinging for quite some time, I am better off hitting. I have a few questions and need some help. One, I feel very comfortable using a reverse overlap grip, and would like to know if this is a good or bad idea. Two, I hit the ball considerably longer with driver when swinging, although my irons are only slightly longer. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Ten-finger with the grip more in the palm is recommended. Grip pressure is high.

I guess because, in "swinging", there is more degree of freedom (moving parts and space) for generating the speed (or momentum). With slower speed, the same amount of momentum can be compensated with more "effective mass" or "clubhead lag" or "shaft flex/stress" to a certain degree in "hitting".
So, under the same amount of power output, you need to find the balance between "hitting speed" and "clubhead heaviness" to generate the optimal ball speed.

YOU load and sustain the "LAG", during which the " LAW" releases it, ideally beyond impact.
"Sustain ( Yang/陽) the lag ( Yin/陰)" is "the unification of Ying and Yang" ( 陰陽合一).
The " LAW" creates the " effect", which is the "motion" or "feel", with the " cause", which is the "intent" or "command".
" Lag" is the secret of golf, passion is the secret of life.
Think as a golfer, execute like a robot.
Rotate, twist, spin, turn.
Bend the shaft.

In both hitting and swinging, it is beneficial to focus not just on clubhead heaviness, but on feeling the heaviness of the 'entire' club. Swingers will tend to feel the clubhead and hitters will tend to feel the grip as the 'heavy' end - but the goal should be to feel the entire club.
It is an excellent way to understand 1-L-8 (sequence)
