I like the views that Faldo adds to the broadcast, but Azinger needs to calm down. Too often he sounds overly anxious to get a few words in edgewise.

Faldos Comments
I didn't hear what Faldo said? Could you repeat his words, or paraphrase please?

Hey, fellow golfers please answer our question, what do you or what is the best way to start the back swing? Thanks.

Start the backswing
in most cases, the arms. Arms then move shoulders...shoulder turn then moves hips. Revearse for downswing.

In the golfing machine there are three basic ways to start the backswing....

Standard Hip Action.......Pivot Controlled Hand.....it will give you a natural angled Delivery path

Delayed Hip Action with Right Forearm Takeaway (Hand Controlled Pivot) and your shoulders powering your hips in the backswing by way of the right forearm takeaway.....the players skill level will dictate which delivery path he or she will use....study 2-H to make the connection. No free lunch today....

or the derivative of delayed .....Right Forearm and Hips.....refer to 10-15-B where it says in the first sentence....."or at least lead"; ie; the shoulders......this is a special case backstroke (call it a combination of standard and delayed)...a la Tom Tomasello. Hips Power (or active) but with Leading Shoulders through the Right Forearm Takeaway keeping the hands on the straight line delivery path.

What I just described to you took about 12 years to fully understand and appreicate...

The big hurdle will be the integration with component 23 "Delivery Paths".

For my money and experience with the machine......how you start the backswing...should be the way you start the downswing.....standard hip action....should be follow by a lower body downswing....the right forearm take away should be followed by a right forearm start down for both hitters and swingers.....I'm sure that will ring a few bells.......

I have to tell you that your simple and straightforward question is challenging to answer in a simple and straightforward way.

I would offer that no voluntary muscle contraction will move anything without a thought. I mean that you have an intention to move something somewhere before the muscles get into action.

So, the "best way to start the back swing" requires you to determine what you are going to move (your hands) and where are you going to move them (postion at The Top or End).

In The Golf Machine, Homer Kelly identifies the hands as the "command posts" for the golf motion. Your job is to discover the path your hands should take on the backswing.

If you think these ideas will help you with your question, your next step will be to select a Plane of Motion to guide you on the backswing.

I can continue with more information in another reply if you're interested. If you think these ideas are wacky, no offence taken.

Hope this helps

DG,

That's is what I am feeling now (what you mentioned, whatever goes up, come down first, I am using the right forearm takeaway and as a hitter, coming down, I don't feel any noticeable hip slide to the right, or axis tilt. So my question is in related thread in Brian, Chuck or this forum, it has been mentioned that the first move down is the hip; and remove the slack by moving the hip, no shoulder move etc.. This is in contradiction on your comment for hitter using delated hip action.

Hitter.....

Start with Hips (body) per 2-M-4 = 4 Barrel

Start with Right Forearm per 10-20-B = 3 Barrel (true hitter)
