| The "neck" is actually the cervical spine, but that is irrelevant. I see what you are saying. But keeping the upper "back" straight, and bending only the neck seems like you would be burying your chin into your chest. I feel much more comfortable with my shoulders rounded, but I have also played enough to know that what feels comfortable isn't always right. |
Sandman,
You're okay. No Mr. Peepers 'peering down' into the bi-focals. But no 'Mr. Chinburied into your Chest' nonsense, either.
The shoulders don't turn UNDER the chin -- as the pedagogues would haveyou believe -- they turn TO the chin! ![icon_eek.gif]()
So, just 'Aim your rifle' and you'll be okay!
Time for a picnic in the Swamp. You like ham and cheese?

| The lower and mid back should definitely be straight. But why the upper back and neck?? I want to be able to look directly at the object which I am trying to 3 dimensionally visualize and pound into the ground. I just can't do that very well looking out of the bottom of my eyes and trying to keep my head and neck in line. I think even if you start all straight you will find a tendency (at least on more accomplished ball strikers) to return at impact fix looking directly at the ball through the middle of the eyes, which I think is the point Mr. Manzella is getting at with the neck being parallel to the ground (not trying to put words into his mouth, just how I picture it). I am only beginning in TGM...so please teach me if I am wrong. It just makes sense to me in a hand eye coordination sense. |
Sandman,
The spine is the backbone. It ends at the neck. The neck joins the Head withthe Body. It is not part of the Straight Rod of 7-9.
