Is it just me or are you also annoyed by the constant drone of the 'camera plane' during the TGC telecast at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions? This was a problem with the GoodYear blimp a few years back on the PGA TOUR, but something was done about it, and it ceased to be a distraction.
But the drone is now back. No problem according to PGA TOUR commissioner
Tim Finchem, who has just opined in a live interview that the "aerial views" now make this the most dramatic telecast in golf. Well . . .
Count me out, unless you're deaf. Or, the aerials get done earlier in the week. Then, you could 'hasta-la-vista, baby' the plane and broadcast the magnificent views in arrears.
Kapalua, the Plantation Course, and the surrounding Pacific Ocean scenery are absolutely spectacular, especially for the "rest of us" who are mired in winter. The peace and tranquility are unbelievable when experienced in person and almost as good when experienced by the magic of television. But . . .
The ever-present 'drone' ruins it all. Even the announcers can't talk over it. And when they do, it's even more annoying.
It's like the neighbor's landscapers with their leaf-blowers at 7 AM. It gradually dawns that you are being seriously bothered. Then, when they finally turn 'em off . . . aahhh!
That's the way I feel about the ever-present drone at the Hyundai. Except that, with my remote . . .
I can turn off this 'blower'.
