golf channel reveals 4 finalist tommorrow

Wanted to respond to the recent selections....and up front...I wanted all to know that I enjoyed the submission process and really enjoyed the work that I put into my entry.

It was a tremendous idea for the Golf Channel to have this contest which inspired many to take the time to enter a submission....and to promote activity on their website. Hat's off to the Golf Channel for the promotion....and it was a success I am sure for the GC. The mere fact that I am making a post is eveidence of the success of their promotion.

However...it was a bit misleading and that is a fact. 4 were to be selected and it was advertised that way...only 3 were selected from amoung the 100's that were submitted. And I thought it was to be 4 new instructors...new faces....etc. Nope...that didn't happen either....with so many capable teachers in this country....how could they not find a new face or two????

It is my observation that this was a huge promowith no respect to the implied intent of the contest. It's disappointing....to say the least.

But....the show must go on!

Did you guys have to agree to anything regarding golf channel being able to use the content of your submissions as they wish? If so, that would make these selections extra suspicious, as they not only got a lot of publicity from this, they have also collected a pretty big library of unique and compelling instructional content.

Yes, and from the Contest Rules, here 'tis:

"By entering this Promotion, Entrant (his/her parent/legal guardian if Entrant is a resident of a jurisdiction that deems him/her to be a minor) grants Sponsor the right: (i) to post/publish submitted Video on the Website and on air(and any other present or future media in which it is or may be published, including, without limitation electronic databases), or other websites owned, operated by or affiliated with the Sponsor, without further compensation; and (ii) to modify, edit, adapt, and electronically alter submitted Video without compensation or further notice to Entrant. Although Sponsor is granted the rights herein, it is not obligated to, nor does it represent or warrant that any Video submitted by Entrant will be published on the Website or otherwise, or that such publication will be free of technical errors, problems or compatibility issues and Sponsor shall have no liability related thereto."


Then, excerpted from the TGC website's Terms and Conditions:

(B) By posting messages, uploading files, or otherwise providing any material to us for display on the Service, you are granting thegolfchannel.com a royalty-free, perpetual, non-exclusive, unrestricted, worldwide license to use, copy, sublicense, adapt, transmit, publicly perform or display any such communication and sublicense to third parties the unrestricted right to exercise any of the foregoing rights granted with respect to the communication. The foregoing grants shall include the right to exploit any proprietary rights in such material, including but not limited to rights under copyright, trademark, service mark or patent laws under any relevant jurisdiction.
